Originally, I took this class to fill an empty space in my schedule. It was tough at first because I had no idea what I was doing. Before this class I had taken photos on my camera, but they weren't the best. I struggled the most with aperture and shutter speed. I always had to ask for help because I never understood the numbers.
As time went on, I slowly started to understand how to properly take photos. For the first few photo assignments they started off quite rough, but I eventually got the hang of it. I always looked forward to coming to this class, starting off my day taking photos and using photoshop. I have had previous experience in photoshop, so this was somewhat of a review for me. This class has had a very positive impact on me and my academic future. Whenever we had a photoshop assignment, I was ecstatic to do it. This class has led me to pursue my love for graphic design and photoshop. have two digital cameras at home and one Polaroid film camera as well. This class has had a very positive impact on me in the long run. Now that I have learned the in's and out's of how a camera is made and how it works, I will be a lot more mindful when I take photos. I am so thankful that I took this class and had a very positive experience. Here are some examples of my photos from the first day to the last day.

In this assignment, we had to create three visual puns and two visual dictionaries in photoshop. For the visual dictionary, we used type and images to illustrate a word from the dictionary. For the three puns, we used layers and copyright free images in photoshop. We had to combine images to create a visual pun. In this assignment, I learned how to navigate photoshop better and how to use creative commons. I had never heard of creative commons before this assignment and I had a lot of fun exploring the website. I loved working in photoshop to create our own puns. I tried to make them as creative as I could.
In this assignment, we had to take one portrait photo in the studio and one using window light. I worked in photoshop using layers, framing a digital photo, resizing photos, and adding text. For the studio portrait, we had to have the head space and lighting all correct. For the window light portrait we had to use a bounce card to get rid of shadow. In this assignment, I learned how to take portrait photos in a studio and using window light. I learned how to use a bounce card to eliminate shadow on part of the face. It was challenging for the studio photo to get the lighting, headspace, and having the stool in the right place. Taking the portrait using window light was not as challenging. It was interesting to see how a bounce card had a big effect on the shadows in the photo. I had a lot of fun learning how to take portrait photos. I can use the tools I have learned from this assignment later in my career taking photos.
In this assignment, I took photos of farm animals that were on my aunts farm. My aunt lives on a dairy farm and also boards horses. I thought it would be cool to take photos of something that not many people have done before. I had my camera in auto, and tried to capture the different colors of each animal. In this assignment, I learned how to get better at taking photos of animals in motion. It was very hard to get the cows to stay still to get the right photo. It was a gloomy day, therefore I had to work with the natural lighting. This was a very big challenge for me, but a great learning experience. I had a lot of fun doing this assignment, other than the fact that a cow pooped on my coat.
In this assignment, I took pictures of my cats and my friend's pigs. My cat doesn't move a lot, so I took photos of him in his natural habitat. I tried to take each photo at a different angle and capture the personality of the animals. NOTE: Photos won't load onto blog. In this assignment, I learned how to take advantage of using natural lighting. I also learned that it is hard to take photos of animals that don't move a lot. I tried to be as creative as possible, but it was a challenge.
In this assignment, I did splash of color, polaroid, and jumping out of the screen. We had to use many different tools in photoshop for each tutorial. We used the eraser tool, layer masks, different layers, etc. What I learned
In this assignment, I chose to do "open" and photograph color. I took photos at many different angles to see which enhanced the color of the object the best. Luckily, the sun was shining beautifully and had a great effect on the color of each object. After I picked my best six, I put them in photoshop to make each photo stand out. In this assignment, I learned that if you take a photos from a different angle each time, the color may change. I had a lot of fun exploring to find different objects of color. I also got more practice with shooting in manual mode. To get the best color in the photo, I changed the aperture and ISO until all colors were shown.
In this assignment, we had to take multiple photos to make it look like there were multiple of one person in the photo. We used tripods to take the photos, and our skills in photoshop such as layer mask, photo stacks, and creativity. Using two different scenes, each one had to be different. In this assignment, I learned how to stack photos. I have had previous experience in photoshop, therefore using layer masks was a review for me. I liked how we had a lot of creativity and freedom in this assignment. It was challenging to make the person not overlap in the photos. I had a lot of fun doing that assignment, I hope to do more like this in the future.
In this assignment, we had to take a photo of the school and change the context in photoshop. I chose to recreate the scene from Cinderella at the Ball. We had to use filters, create shadows, size photos, etc. I had a lot of fun doing this assignment and hope we do something similar soon. In this assignment, I learned how to resize a photo and use filters. I have had experience in Photoshop, so part of this was a review for me. I used the brush tool to get a pink on the side. I loved how much creativity and freedom we had with this assignment. Saline High School is a Cinderella Story!
In this assignment, I took photos of nature. I tried getting colorful photos of plants around my house. The leaves are just changing colors, but it is still warm enough to have flowers. I took photos of both of these. I used the natural lighting from the outdoors to shoot these. In this assignment, I learned how to capture the subject of nature. I tried to take the photos at different angles so it would be more pleasing to the eye. I also learned how changing your angle and amount of light on the subject, can really affect the photo. I loved capturing the beauty of nature, and had a lot of fun.
